Charlotte van Linschoten was the second wife of Gerard Cornelis van Riebeeck. She is shown here dressed in her finery. Her décolletage is visible above the plunging neckline of her dress, which is worn over a tight-fitting corset. Because silk fabrics were relatively narrow, her skirt is made up of several widths.
